Abigail Jane or Abby-Jane came into the world at around 11:45pm last night after a long day of labor. Rhea and I went in at 5:30am yesterday with contractions and the doctor broke her water at 7:00 am. At 7:00pm she was dilated enough to start pushing hard but by 11:00pm had not made enough progress so the doctor decided to do a c-section. It went great and baby and mom are doing fine. She was 8 lbs 8 oz. and 20 and 1/2 inches long. She had a head full of dark hair! Thanks to all for your prayers.

Baby Shower 9/28/08

Rhea had a baby shower on 9/28/08 at the Petal Civic Center, which was hosted by Carol Taylor and other ladies from Indian Springs Baptist Church (Rhea's Mom's Church). Thanks to all who hosted and helped with the party. Special thanks to everyone who gave us presents, it takes a village! We're putting the nursery together as I type (or Rhea's nesting, as I like to say). It's all coming together fast! Here are some pictures from the shower.

Rhea's sister and sister in law, Carol Sloan and Jeanie Sloan, hosted a baby shower @ Granny's house on 8/23/08. The baby recieved a lot of great stuff, including a mountain of diapers. Thanks to everyone who helped prepare and clean up.

Baby's First Vacation

Baby had her first vaction on Aug. 4th through Aug. 8th. We went to Rock City, The Biltmore, Noccalula Falls and Cherokee Indian Villiage. Here are some pictures of the trip.

We had a baby shower tonight at Grundy Baptist Church, which was hosted by Debbie Fletcher, Jean Fuller, Kathy Hannah, Genny Johnson, Sandy Johnson, Judy Raines, Janice Rife, Mary Salyers, Mina Smith, and Rosemary Wood. Thanks to the hostesses for the decoration and food and to everyone who gave us baby gifts! We received a lot of great stuff and deeply appreciate everything.

Doctor's Visit 6/23/08

Rhea had a regularly scheduled doctor’s visit today. Other than a long wait, everything was fine. Rhea’s p. symphysis measurement was 23 centimeters. At her next visit she needs to have a 1 hour sugar test. After this test, she will start seeing her doctor every two weeks.

Doc's E-mail

My doctor e-mailed me today and confirmed the results of the ultrasound:
"Your recent OB ultrasound returned with normal results. The baby's heart beat, the Amniotic Fluid Index, placenta and weight were all within normal limits. The baby was in the 66% for the weight which is great."

Baby Registries

Today, after the doctor’s visit, we started our Wal-Mart baby registry. Click here to view it. Some of the items have pictures, if you scroll to the bottom of the link. One neat thing is that we registered for matching hi-char, swing, portable playpen, car seat, and stroller.

Early this week Rhea registered at Jag’s, a local specialty boutique. (276) 935-4311. They have a lot of cute matching outfits. Most of the things she registered for are made by “Bunnies by the Bay.” Although you cannot order from their website, click here to view the types of items they carry and some of the items she registered for.

We will probably be registering for some other items at Baby’s R Us or some other place later in time. There hasn’t been any definitive plans for showers, but the church is considering throwing one sometime around the week of July the 8th. Rhea’s Mom has mentioned throwing a baby-book shower, the details of which will probably be worked out after we determine when we will be able to move back home.

Doctor's Visit 5/30/08

Rhea had a regularly scheduled doctor’s visit today. The doctor said that the radiologist had reviewed Tuesday’s ultrasound and that everything looked super. We listened to the baby’s heartbeat, which was 145 beats per minute. The measurement from Rhea’s p. symphysis to the top of her uterus was 20 centimeters. This measurement normally increase 1 centimeter per week. Half way done!

Week 16

Baby now measures about 4.3 to 4.6 inches from crown to rump and weighs about 2.8 ounces. Fingernails are well-formed and the fine hair, called lanugo, continues to grow on the head. Arms and legs are moving, the nervous system is functioning and muscles are responding to stimulation from your baby's brain. March 31 doctor's visit

I had a doctor’s visit today. I have gained two pounds!! Everything seems to be normal and healthy. The doctor used a Doppler to listen to Baby D's heartbeat. He/she sounded like a galloping horse!! 154 beats per minute.

The doctor said there were studies showing how playing classical music (i.e., prenatal education) to your unborn child helps them intellectually. However, she also stated that it is just as likely that advanced development is not related to music, but the fact that parents who play classical music are possible passing more "smart genes" on. (as Robert says, we ‘don’t got no’ classical music and only a few smart genes, so we’ll see about the Babyplus). No change in the due date.

Babyplus Prenatal Education

We are currently bidding on e-bay for the Babyplus prenatal education system. Hopefully, we’ll win an auction before the end of the week. This system contains 16 sound “lessons.” To operate the babyplus, it is placed in a pouch around the stomach and played for one hour, twice a day. It is for weeks 18-32. The product description states, “your baby can very clearly hear these patterns. She/he learns to discriminate between the sound coming from the mother and those from BabyPlus. In other words, learning has begun. Your baby accelerates the rate at which he or she compares and contrasts information. This process builds your baby's memory for greater capacity and function throughout life.” While this technology has been studied for over a two decades, it has become widely used and marketed just recently. Rhea is going to ask her doctor about it today, and with her go-ahead, we will start using it in week 18.

March 24th Ultra Sound

Everything went very smooth and quick; the tech even heated the jell for Rhea. The tech said that the computer estimated a different due date than what we were initially told. If I'm not mistaken, she said October 14th. Rhea has a regularly scheduled doctor visit on Monday, March 31st, so we will see if her doctor agrees with the changed date.
